MinaLima was created by two individuals, Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima. They first started working together on the harry potter films, and created their company with the goal of creating unconventional and original designs and illustrations for the creative industry.
After finishing work on films, they continued creating harry potter related works, taking commissions and creating places such as Diagon alley in “The Wizarding world of harry potter”, as well as creating marketing materials for the franchise.
A Bale Of Trutles

This piece of art depicts several turtles, with the text “A Bale of Turtles” in the middle. It is a two dimensional print, featuring mostly stylized elements.

In this piece of work, the entire image does not have any typical lines, but the forms are made out of changes in colors, like the orange-yellow of the rightmost turtle contrasting with the background. The texture of the turtles’ surface is shown through the darker shapes present on the turtles’ head and arms, and I imagine the texture as rough and hard. The color scheme used in this piece is an analogous color scheme.

The way the print was made seem to be starting with the background and the turtles in the background(top), and then the turtle at the bottom left and the letter “T”. The seaweed is then added, and after that the main 7 turtles would have been added. Then, the text and the details on the turtles would be printed on. Since there is no overlap, it works either way. The final step would be to add the light rays shining from above. I think this would have been done with a faint layer of ink or paint. As for materials used, the only one specified is the Hahnemühle fine art paper, as for the inks and pigments, i could not find information regarding that. However, from the block colors and the way it looks, i think they used something similar to wood blocks or linol to print.(something that would have lines cut out.
When comparing this piece of work to others by MinaLima titled “How dare you steal that car! - magical moments print”, the differences are extremely obvious. While both pieces use blocks of color rather than lines to differentiate between things in the composition, that is just about where the differences end. This piece features a warm color palette, and while the artists are the same, the overall feel and style of the pieces are completely different. The turtles are stylised in a more mainstream way, whereas the “How dare you steal that car!” print is done in a very unique style, easily recognisable as the MinaLima style.
I personally really like this piece of art. I think the use of color and the way it was made shows how much skill and dedication MinaLima have put into their work. I think what makes this work stand out is the use of color ro separate things in the composition rather than lines, that one of the main reasons why I like this piece of work.
A Bale Of Turtles Transcript

This is a transcript of their print "A bale of turtles". I used watercolor and a pencil undersketch to make this.
